Using The Sun Without The Heat

She was not overheated or squinting like she was trying to read something a hundred feet away. She was relaxed and her joyful personality came through. When scheduling your photo session, please keep in mind what the lighting and the temperature will be like at that time of day. Early morning or late in the day give you the best options as far as the quality of light (which affects your colors and shadows) and the cooler temperatures with less humidity. This will help you protect your hair from going flat or your makeup from being messed up because you started sweating. And this will keep your face from getting flushed. I have photographed some students whose cheeks get really red when they get hot. You don't want that in your photos.

When selecting a location for your photo session, keep the time of the day in mind so you can know if you will be out in the open or able to find some shade to shoot in like under a tree or a roof. If the sun is directly overhead and you have no shady areas, then you will have harsh lighting on your face causing "racoon eyes" plus extreme highlights.

One more benefit of shooting in the morning or the evening is how much better you will feel throughout the session when it is not so hot. You will be more relaxed and less likely to rush through something. Your photo session should be fun and relaxing, not feel like running a marathon.
