A Better Way To Share Your Photos Online

May 08, 2025

260729-00418260729-00418 You have finished your photo session and you are waiting for your portraits to be finished and sent back to you. Now you want to share them... but what's the best way to do that?

Some people will just screenshot them and crop them. Others will select "Save to phone" but what are you saving? As an experiment this morning, I took a screenshot of a photo from Bethany's recent photo session and opened that file in Photoshop. By clicking on "File info", I discovered that the screenshot of Bethany's photo had a resolution measurement of 1.001. The image above is straight from my hard drive and when I edited that photo, the resolution was set to 300 pixels per inch. Now I realize that when I post a 300 pixels per inch photo on any form of social media, it is going to lose some of the resolution, right? One of the websites that I looked at today said this "Social media platforms compress images to save storage space on their servers and speed up loading times for users. While this is great for performance, it comes at a cost—your image quality."

This means that you are losing even more quality when you post a screenshot of your photos. "When you post screenshots on Facebook, they may lose resolution and appear compressed and noisy." The full-size files that I send you are too big for social media so what is the best option? In addition to sending you the full-sized files in a zip folder, if you ask me for it, I can send you the photos in a reduced size like the one above. But starting with 300 pixels per inch, even if you lose some resolution, the clarity and rich colors will still be there.

As your photographer, I am always looking for ways to make your experience better. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to serve you.
